Sysmex XN-550 haematology analyser

Sysmex XN-550 automated haematology analyzer

A compact Sysmex analyzer with an automated sample loader, a 6-part white cell differential and automatic rerun and reflex testing. Milap International supplies, installs and services the XN-550 as an authorised Sysmex partner.

  • 6-part differential including immature granulocytes (IG)
  • Up to 60 samples/hour in whole blood mode
  • Automated sample loader with rack sampling
  • 25 µL whole blood sample volume

What is the Sysmex XN-550?

The Sysmex XN-550 is a benchtop haematology analyzer from the XN-L series. It gives a complete blood count (CBC) with a 6-part white cell differential, including an immature granulocyte (IG) count, using fluorescent flow cytometry. Its automated sample loader and automatic rerun and reflex testing make it the most automated model in the XN-L range, suited to busy hospital and diagnostic labs that want walk-away CBC testing in a small footprint.

Key features

6-part differential with IG

Neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils plus an immature granulocyte count, with no extra reagents.

Automated sample loader

Load racks and walk away; the analyzer mixes and samples each tube.

Automatic rerun and reflex

Flagged samples are rerun or reflexed to extra tests by onboard rules, a feature only the XN-550 has in the XN-L series.

Low WBC mode

Longer counting for accurate results in patients with very low white cell counts.

Optional RET and body fluid modes

Add reticulocyte counts (RET, IRF, RET-He) and body fluid cell counts with optional licences.

Same technology as the XN-Series

Shares reagents and controls with larger Sysmex XN analyzers, so results stay consistent across a lab network.

How a CBC runs on the XN-550

  1. Collect the blood sample in an EDTA tube; standard tubes and micro-collection tubes are supported.
  2. Place the tubes in racks on the automated sample loader, which mixes and aspirates 25 µL from each tube.
  3. The analyzer counts red cells and platelets by impedance, measures haemoglobin with a cyanide-free method and separates white cells by fluorescent flow cytometry.
  4. Results, flags and scattergrams appear on the touchscreen, and onboard rules rerun or reflex abnormal samples automatically.

Who is the XN-550 for?

The XN-550 suits hospital labs, diagnostic centres and multi-speciality clinics that run a steady daily CBC workload and want automation without a large footprint. Labs moving up from a 3-part analyzer get a fuller differential, and labs that already run larger Sysmex XN analyzers can add the XN-550 as a backup or satellite analyzer with the same reagents and controls.

Frequently asked questions

It runs a complete blood count with a 6-part white cell differential, including immature granulocytes. Reticulocyte and body fluid counts are available with optional licences.

Up to 60 samples per hour in whole blood mode.

The XN-350 uses manual open-tube sampling. The XN-550 adds an automated sample loader with rack sampling and automatic rerun and reflex testing, so it suits busier labs.

It aspirates 25 µL in whole blood mode and 70 µL in pre-dilute and body fluid modes, so it can also handle paediatric micro-samples.
