What is the Fresenius 4008S NG?
The Fresenius 4008S NG, also known as the 4008S classix, is a haemodialysis machine for hospital and stand-alone dialysis units. It runs standard haemodialysis with online clearance monitoring, the DIASAFE plus filter for ultrapure dialysis fluid and bibag dry bicarbonate.
The four stages of a session
- Prepare: the nurse sets up and primes the bloodlines and dialyser while the machine runs its self-test.
- Prescribe: the ultrafiltration goal, treatment time, dialysate flow and temperature are entered.
- Treat: blood flows through the dialyser while the machine monitors pressures and tracks clearance.
- Finish: the blood is returned, the patient is disconnected and the disinfection programme runs.
How the unit knows the dose was delivered
The Online Clearance Monitor (OCM) measures dialysis efficiency and dose during every treatment. Staff see whether the session is on course while the patient is still connected, without waiting for a blood test.
Clean dialysis fluid
- DIASAFE plus: a filter that delivers ultrapure dialysis fluid.
- bibag: dry bicarbonate concentrate, a hygienic way to supply bicarbonate.
- Adapted flow: dialysate flow is adjusted to save fluid and resources.
