Chemistry tests without liquid reagents: the Fujifilm DRI-CHEM NX600

A conventional chemistry analyzer needs liquid reagents, water and a trained technician. A small hospital or an emergency room at night often has none of the three ready. Dry chemistry was made for that situation.

What is the Fujifilm DRI-CHEM NX600?

The Fujifilm DRI-CHEM NX600 is an automated dry chemistry analyzer that runs tests on ready-made reagent slides. It measures 28 colorimetric tests plus sodium, potassium and chloride, one sample at a time, with no liquid reagents to prepare.

What dry chemistry means

Each test comes as a small slide that already holds the reagents in dry layers. The analyzer spots the sample on the slide, incubates it and reads the result. There is nothing to mix, and used slides are discarded automatically. For a fuller comparison, read dry chemistry vs wet chemistry.

Three steps to a result

  1. Set: place the slides and the sample tube.
  2. Start: press the Start button.
  3. Read: the result prints or goes to the LIS, in 2 to 6 minutes per test.

Whole blood, no centrifuge step

The built-in plasma filter separates whole blood in about 1 minute, so a sample can be tested soon after it is drawn. The analyzer also accepts serum and plasma. Each colorimetric test needs 10 µL of sample, CRP needs 5 µL, and the three electrolytes together need 50 µL and take 1 minute.

Key figures

Throughput

Up to 128 tests an hour with electrolytes.

Size

About 47 cm wide and 28 kg, with a 7-inch touch panel.

Connectivity

HL7 over RS-232C, USB and LAN.

Who it suits

The NX600 suits clinics, small hospitals, emergency departments and point-of-care settings that need quick chemistry results on single samples. A busier unit that needs to load five samples at once and prioritise urgent ones should look at the DRI-CHEM NX700. Milap installs the analyzer, trains your staff and supplies DRI-CHEM slides and consumables from Bengaluru.

Frequently asked questions
