Why clinics read urine strips with the CLINITEK Status+
A urine strip is cheap and quick, but reading it by eye depends on the light, the clock and the person. The Siemens Healthineers CLINITEK Status+ reads the strip for you and prints the result.
What does the CLINITEK Status+ do?
The CLINITEK Status+ is a compact urine analyzer for outpatient departments, clinics and physician offices. It times and reads Siemens urine test strips automatically, gives the result in 1 minute and prints a report, so the result does not depend on who read the strip.
The problems with reading by eye
- Timing: each pad must be read at the right moment; a busy nurse reads early or late.
- Colour judgement: two people can match the same pad to different blocks on the chart.
- Recording: results copied by hand can be written against the wrong patient.
What the analyzer checks for you
- Auto-Checks: detects sample interferences, flags results that may be compromised and checks whether the strip was exposed to humidity.
- Strip identification: recognises the strip type automatically, with no manual entry.
- Self-calibration: calibrates automatically.
- Memory: stores 700 patient results and 700 operator IDs.
Tests it reads
The analyzer reads the Multistix family of strips: leukocytes, nitrite, protein, blood, glucose, ketone, bilirubin, urobilinogen, pH and specific gravity. It also reads creatinine with the protein-to-creatinine ratio, albumin with the albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR), and the CLINITEST hCG pregnancy test cassette.
Small enough for a consulting room
The unit weighs 1.66 kg and runs on mains power or six AA batteries, so it can move between rooms. If you later need results in the hospital system, the same analyzer upgrades to CLINITEK Status Connect for LIS connectivity. To compare models, see how to choose a urine analyzer.
