CBC and CRP in four minutes with the HORIBA Microsemi CRP
A child arrives with a fever. The doctor has to judge how serious the infection is and whether an antibiotic is needed, ideally before the family leaves. A blood count and a CRP value together make that judgement easier.
What is the HORIBA Microsemi CRP?
The HORIBA Microsemi CRP is a 3-part haematology analyzer with a built-in C-reactive protein (CRP) test. From 18 µL of whole blood it gives a complete blood count and a CRP result in about 4 minutes, in one run.
Why the two tests belong together
The blood count shows how the white cells are responding. CRP is a marker of inflammation that rises with infection. Seen together during the same visit, they help the doctor decide on treatment, especially on antibiotics. Our guide to CBC with CRP testing covers when the combined test helps most.
A sample small enough for children
- CBC only: 10 µL of blood.
- CBC and CRP: 18 µL of blood.
- One tube: both tests come from the same EDTA sample.
How a test runs
- Choose: select CBC or CBC with CRP.
- Present: hold the open EDTA tube to the analyzer.
- Measure: cells are counted by impedance while CRP is measured by immunoturbidimetry.
- Print: the result prints on the built-in printer.
Key figures
CBC
19 parameters with a 3-part differential.
CRP range
0 to 200 mg/L in whole blood.
Throughput
About 15 tests an hour for CBC with CRP, or 55 an hour for CBC only.
Size
19 kg, with a colour touchscreen.
Who it suits
The Microsemi CRP suits paediatric clinics, emergency and outpatient departments and general practices. A laboratory that needs a fuller differential at higher volume should compare a 5-part haematology analyzer. Milap installs the analyzer, trains your staff and supplies HORIBA reagents and controls from Bengaluru.
